Happy Spring Everyone!!
Hill's Happy Hens have really been working!! The girls are off to an amazing start with about 90% laying rate!! To Roosters have been crowing too! We are excited to say that we all survived the winter and are ready to really spread our wings this spring.
We are currently letting the girls "hens" out every morning just after 8 a.m. to play in the nice weather. Even if it isn't so nice they go out and scratch around looking for something great to eat!! They are keeping the ground nice and clean and really enjoying their grass hay.
We are feeding whole wheat, layer mash from Mathew's Grain (Soon to be GMO free!!) I am so excited about what we are creating!
The Hens get to run around until dark and then they put themselves to bed. We keep them locked up in their coop for the night to protect them from predators.
I am excited to say that I have learned quite a little bit since I have started this chicken thing!! The number one lesson to remember when raising chickens is to never underestimate the use of a five gallon bucket!! They make amazing nesting boxes, pretty good hanging feeders, and with a lid keep feed nice and dry!!
